The secrets of Kalevala await... (I'm still alive!)

Okay, ya'll deserve an update.  I apologize for being very slow with making new information public about this project, but my life has been in constant flux since late 2017 and it's been hard to nail anything down.

But I am -- at least -- making significant progress in the last few months.  And that is good, because I had to start over...  Let me explain.

I was originally making Legacy in Unity.  I've been using Unity professionally for a little while (around a year), and have used it for many game jams.  I felt pretty comfortable with it and I felt it was a good fit for Legacy.  So I proceeded to spend 2016-2017 working on Legacy in Unity.  In fact, the original screen shots I posted on here are from the Unity version.

But about a year ago, I decided to take a look at Godot.  3.1 had just released and I was pretty impressed with it.  I had been wanting to get away from Unity because their change to a subscription based model, and while their cloud-build and remote teamwork tools are interesting, I wasn't wanting to spend more money on the engine.  Also, as a single-person developer with practically no budget, I wasn't ever going to be able to afford the C++ source code to Unity.  But Godot was completely open source and supported all the platforms I wanted.

So I decided to do a full rewrite of Legacy in 2019 in Godot 3.1.  I'm now up to Godot 3.2, and I am currently helping test the Godot 3.3 release candidate, which has significant 2D game performance optimizations -- So Legacy should run just fine even on sub-par hardware.

I'm really happy with Godot.  The game is more fluid and feels close to the Flash game in terms of how the character handles.  I'm still learning the engine but I'm getting closer to having a build ready to share to my testers.

Anyway, thanks all of you for sticking with me and being patient.  I'm about to move next month, and once that is done I will have a better idea of how soon I can get Legacy finished.

For now, enjoy this short video demonstrating the latest build.  (Note: It's a little choppy as I was running the debug build.)

It’s awesome to see some of the game, I hope everything goes well! Personally, I don’t mind the long gaps between updates, so don’t stress out about it if you forget/can’t make them. Eager to see further progress!
