What is Legend of Kalevala?

Legend of Kalevala is a 2D platform with retro 16-bit style artwork and music which weaves a tale about an alien planet Kalevala and its inhabitants. The player is dropped right into this scenario and must puzzle out the story behind Kalevala while trying to survive.

What is Legacy of Kalevala?

Legacy is a completely re-written version of Legend. The game is being ported to a modern 3D game engine (Godot) and supports all of the original content from the Flash version. However, Legacy is not just a straight port!

For one, the game is being extended and remixed. The original levels are in the process of being redesigned and optimized for a more pleasant, non-linear experience. Legacy will follow the same story as Legend -- but there will be new content, and an expanded set of levels.

Originally, an expansion for the Flash game was to be released in 2013-14, but as time went on and Flash browser gaming became obsolete, I refocused on re-writing Legend in a more modern gaming engine. Legacy is the result of that work.

More information will be posted the further along the development cycle I am, but I can already say these features are present:

Dynamic day-and-night cycles. (See below for the night version of the screenshot above!)
More RPG elements. Legacy will take on more of the "-vania" aspects of its genre.
Larger, seamless world compared to the Flash game. Forever gone will be loading screens (aside from the initial)!
A reveal of what is behind that locked secret door. :3
Improved movement physics and visual effects, all running at glorious 60+ FPS.
